Ford introduced the British Ford Cortina
into Australia in Oct 1962. The standard version had a four cylinder 1198cc engine; a De Luxe model with a 1498cc engine and a GT with the larger engine and modified brakes and suspension were released the following year. This was followed by the Cortina Lotus which dominated rallying in the mid and late sixties. Several body refinements brought about the Mk2 realeased in April 1967.
The U.K Mk3 was adopted into Australia in July 1971 and with minor modifications was known as the Tc. Capacity was increased to 200ci 3 speed manual inline 6cyl, with a 2V 250ci 4 speed version available. Several cosmetic changes developed into the Td in Oct 1974. No 2 door versions of these vehicles were released in Australia
In June 1977 again with minor modifications Australia accepted the U.K Mk4 as the Te. A (500) limited edition S-Pak version was produced in late 1978. The platform was revised for the U.K. Mk5 to become the Tf in Nov 1980. The local region developed a market to continue production until 1985 finally ending with the TF/S. Total number of cortina's produced in Australia was XXXXXX. Again, no 2door versions of these vehicles were released in Australia.
